Serving Military Families

Military Services

You Serve Our Country. Let Us Serve You.

UMV helps active-duty military with:

  • Registering a vehicle while stationed in Alaska as a non-resident

  • Completing Alaska DMV transactions by mail while serving out of state

  • Navigating title transfers, lienholder documents, and residency-based exemptions

Military personnel often have unique vehicle registration needs due to frequent relocations and varying residency rules. Whether you are stationed in Alaska or serving elsewhere as an Alaska resident, UMV ensures you can register and title your vehicle efficiently, no matter where you are.

Active-Duty Military Stationed in Alaska (Non-Resident)

If you are stationed in Alaska but maintain residency in another state, you may have different options for vehicle registration and taxes. Some military personnel qualify for exemptions from certain fees. To register your vehicle at UMV, bring:

  • Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) dated within the last 30 days
  • Valid government-issued identification
  • Current title to your vehicle
  • If a bank or lienholder has the title, bring the Current Registration Card with Lienholder Name & Address

If you're unsure about your residency status and how it affects your registration, visit any UMV location, and we’ll guide you through the process.

Active-Duty Military Stationed Outside Alaska (Resident)

If you are an Alaska resident on active duty but stationed in another state, you don’t need to return to Alaska to handle your vehicle registration or title transfers. You can renew, register, or title your vehicle by mail.
